In Edinburgh Alexander was born . As a boy, Alexander very much liked playing the piano. His Mother was deaf and so the young boy always used to wonder why she pressed her hearing pipe against the piano. When playing , Bell opened the piano to see planks of wood hitting music pipes pulling down strings to make the sound but he never used to figure out how his mother heard the piano. The time came when it was Alexanders 11th birthday and so he decided to choose a middle name like his two older brothers. Alex finally decided to choose his middle name and it was going to be Graham. Bell’s father taught deaf people to speak at his own home. To communicate with his mother at dinner Alexander used to tap his mothers arm so she could join in with what everyone was saying. At a middle sort of age Alexander was very interested in how sound works . When Alexander wandered around in the woods he felt like the whole world was vibrating all around him.
