1 Literature Review Introduction Knowledge Base -Algae are a large and diverse group of simple, typically autotrophic organisms -Photosynthesis is the most important process of all biological processes -Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, some bacteria, and some protistans use the energy from sunlight to produce sugar -Cellular respiration then converts the sugar into ATP -Photosynthesis also takes carbon dioxide, uses it, then releases oxygen -Bayless, has brought up the idea of using algae to remediate CO2 buildup -The way Bayless imagines the project is by using a photo bioreactor Hypothesis Null Hypothesis: The algae will remediate carbon dioxide but, not enough carbon dioxide will be remediated Alternate Hypothesis: The algae will remediate a significant amount of carbon dioxide Purpose The purpose of this experiment was to compare different light and time intervals of photosynthesis to produce the most amount of Co2.

2 The Effects of Different Fluorescent Light Intervals on the Co2 Output of Chlorella Chlorella Concentrations of 15ml Chlorella, 5ml AlgaGrow Medium, 480mL Fresh water. Two of these concentrations flow through 100ft of plastic tubing with 2 fluorescent 100 watt lights in the center as the light source. The Algae concentration will be pumped around the light source in a course of 100 feet of clear plastic tubing. Recording for differences in level of Co2 output for each time interval using the Glx Explorer in ppm (parts per million) Statistical analysis by ANOVA 12 hour Light 12 Dark 16 hour Light 8 hour Dark 8 hour light 16 hour dark Methodology Figure 1 Figure 3 Results Figure 2
