33 SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES Only a noun (or pronoun) can be owned. If something is owned it is a NOUN (or pronoun). Even if in most other sentences or in the dictionary the word be listed as another part of speech, if it is being owned in the sentence you are reading, it is a NOUN!

34 SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES that tell the reader a noun or pronoun is nearby: An ARTICLE ADJECTIVE ( A, AN OR THE) tells the reader one of the next couple of words will be a noun. Example: Joey carried the bag with the groceries, into the kitchen. I needed an hour to accomplish a very important task before I went to the game. You will not find a verb in between an article adjective and its noun.

35 SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES that tell the reader a noun or pronoun is nearby: A PREPOSITION tells the reader that one of the next couple of words will be a noun or pronoun. EX: Under the box, in the book, by Susie, in March You will NOT find a verb in between a preposition and its noun.
