Glyfada is a city which spreads in the south-east coast of Athens. In 1894, Konstadinos Karapanos bought the land called upper and lower Pirnari at that time because he thought that he could take full advantage of it by cultivating it. The first permanent civilians were 8 farmers and their families who were there to farm the land. So in the early 1900s the only buildings that existed there were ten houses with their auxiliary buildings, the church of Saint Nickolas, a small motel and a tavern. For many years it was only visited by hunters, and families for their Sunday trip. Glyfada started growing and thanks to its “Loutra”(baths) it became more popular. Then the war started and besides local people, nobody else visited Glyfada. But thanks to its agriculture and grasslands nobody died of hunger or at least not until the bombing started, when people lived in ruins because everything had been destroyed. Everything, except the forest where Germans were hiding weapons so nobody bombed that place. In 1922 a large number of Greek refugees from Asia Minor settled in Glyfada where Pierce College (our school) was relocated. GLYFADA’S HISTORY

In 1925 1000 pieces of land were given to families by lottery in order to expand the area and increase its population. Things began to improve in 1950 when the new “Loutra” “ The Stars” (a beach with many amenities) was built and Glyfada became a popular holiday destination again from then and on the evolution of the city started leading it to what it is today …. GLYFADA’S HISTORY

Glyfada today is very far from what it used to be 60 years ago. Now it is full of cafes, malls, department stores, night clubs, bars, beauty salons, restaurants, hotels, private educational institutions, etc. It is a very nice place to live thanks to its rare combination of nature and luxurious standards of living, mild climate and things to do all year round and all day long. In winter time you can spend your day out shopping, going to the movies or to the theater, playing golf, eating at a gourmet seaside restaurant or joining a private club. Whereas in the summer you can spend your day at the beautiful beaches, take long walks at the bays or enjoy the parks and the gardens of the area. GLYFADA TODAY

Some of these great places you can go to shop are Carouzos, Ensayar, Snatch, Replay, Converse, etc. And some restaurants are Hama, Il Salotto, Mymayo, Far East, Nikolas of Sxinousa, Sale Bianco and many others … \\e and entertainment. SPOTS IN GLYFADA

Moreover, famous athletes are frequently asked to give prizes to young athletes and therefore, reinforce and inspire them. SPORTS

It is the place where many athletes, actors, singers, writers and generally celebrities choose to live, perform and exhibit their work. A celebrated venue is the open theatre of “Exoni” built on the ruins of an ancient theatre at the foot of a mountain where many dramatized ancient Greek plays and modern productions are performed.
