2  There are many ways to reduce your carbon foot print…  A carbon Footprint is “the total set of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an organization, event, product or person.”

3  Conserving water  Buy organic and local  Pay attention to packaging  Ditch bottled water  Energy-proof your home  Go native.  Window shop.  Take a direct flight  Switch water heaters to vacation mode  Unplug it!  Keep your car  Chuck your microwave.  Use cold water  Have the family over  Make time for errands  The Three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

4  If you want to cold water to drink instead of running the tap put it in the fridge.  Spreading a layer of organic mulch around plants retains moisture and saves water, time and money.  If your shower fills a one- gallon bucket in less than 20 seconds, replace the showerhead with a water-efficient model.  Designate one glass for your drinking water each day or refill a water bottle. This will cut down on the number of glasses to wash.  Use a layer of organic material on the surface of your planting beds to minimize weed growth that competes for water.

5  Low-flow shower heads sometimes called energy-efficient shower heads as they also use less energy,  Low-flush toilets and composting toilets. These have a dramatic impact in the developed world, as conventional Western toilets use large volumes of water. Low-flush toiletscomposting toilets  Dual flush toilets created by Caroma includes two buttons or handles to flush different levels of water. Dual flush toilets use up to 67% less water than conventional toilets. Dual flush toiletsCaroma  Saline water (sea water) or rain water can be used for flushing toilets.  A valve which reduces water, gas, time, money and CO2 known as a Combisave  Automatic faucet is a water conservation faucet that eliminates water waste at the faucet. It automates the use of faucets without the use of hands. Automatic faucet  Faucet aerators, which break water flow into fine droplets to maintain "wetting effectiveness" while using less water. An additional benefit is that they reduce splashing while washing hands and dishes.  Wastewater reuse or recycling systems, allowing: Wastewater reuse › Reuse of graywater for flushing toilets or watering gardensgraywater › Recycling of wastewater through purification at a water treatment plant. See also Wastewater - Reusepurification Wastewater - Reuse  Rainwater harvesting Rainwater harvesting  High-efficiency clothes washersclothes washers  Weather-based irrigation controllersirrigation  Garden hose nozzles that shut off water when it is not being used, instead of letting a hose run. Garden hosenozzles  using low flow taps in wash basins
