Many town councils recognised importance of public health – Southampton improved water supply in 15 th Century – London, Exeter and Bristol had supplies of fresh water. Medical training was still based on the Galen’s ‘Theory of Opposites’. The belief that God caused and cured illness still existed. CHANGED Water supply often polluted – not enough clean water.
