A mineral is a naturally occurring, inorganic solid, that has a crystal structure and a definite chemical composition. A rock is made of mixtures of minerals and other materials. Some rocks contain only a single mineral. Others contain several different minerals.

Most of the Earth’s crust is made up of Granite (light color, high silica, less dense) . Most of the Earth’s ocean floor is made up of Basalt (dark color, low silica, very dense)
