2 In English… One noun is often used to describe another noun. Examples: Vegetable Soup, Strawberry Yogurt, Apple Juice Note that the noun being described comes second.

3 Vegetable Soup Vegetable tells you what type of Soup it is. Soup is being described by Vegetable. In English, the noun being described comes second. The describing noun comes first.

4 In Spanish… However, in Spanish, the noun being described comes first. The describing noun comes second and is preceded by de. Example: La sopa de verduras. La sopa is the noun being described, verduras is the describing noun, de comes between them. You could literally translate it as “The soup of vegetables.

5 If the noun being described is plural, the second noun stays singular. Also, you do not use the article in front of the second noun. Ex: el sándwich de jamón Plural: los sándwiches de jamón los sándwiches de jamónes los sándwiches del jamón
