2 About us - Croatian Employers’ Association -Coming from Croatia ( 4.3 million people 56,500 km2) -The newest memeber of the EU ( 1st July 2013). -One of the partners on the project, representing the world of work- EMPLOYERS -Social partners - to the Government and Trade Unions -Main focus of our work: laws and regulations, collective agreements at sectoral level -Why we are here-also in focus: Vocational education and training -Members of various EU organisations: BusinessEurope, International Employers’ Association, UEAPME….. 3 Young people in EU- the context -Hit hard by the crisis- unemployment twice as high as „adults” -Many not in education, employment or training- 5.5 million in the EU (NEET) -2020 goals-target to reach 75% employment rate of women and men- hard to reach -Schemes to help young people- YOUTH GUARANTEE -There is a link between quality of traineeship and employment Text Body and Content

4 Traineeship- now -Significant number of trainees are given menial tasks -They work longer hours, lack social security, little remuneration, training is too long etc. -Regulation of training varies from one MS to another -Absence of regulation creates space for misuse of traineess Text- Body and Content-

5 Traineeship- now worWowork rkwor -Countries with high percentages of students enrolled in work-based VET programmes at upper secondary level usually have the lowest youth unemployment rates. -This is evident for Denmark, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. -These countries have a well established tradition for dual- learning apprenticeship schemes. -nt-

6 Quality for Traineeship March 2014 -A recommendation that will support the improvement of working conditions and the learning content Text B- -The traineeships are to be based on a written agreement -Better learning content and respect for the rights and working conditions of trainees -Reasonable duration of traineeships and their proper recognition -Increased cross-border mobility of trainees in the EU ody andThe recommendation provides a common set of guidelines that will increase transparency and improve the quality of traineeships. The member states are invited to put the following principles into practice: traineeships to be based on a written agreement better learning content and respect for the rights and working conditions of trainees reasonable duration of traineeships and their proper recognition increased cross-border mobility of trainees in the EU Content

7 Transnational traineeships To help foster genuine European labour market EURES could be extended to paid traineeship. Text Body and Content

Work experience acts as a vital link between young people and the world of business so it is my firm belief that employers should play an important part to ensure young people’s first experience of work is both challenging and rewarding.- a host employers What do employers need? - Clear regulations on rights and obligations of all the agents in the process - Workplacement guidelines - Good contact with teachers-mentors - Incentives or tax relieves ( state co- finances traineeship) - Coverage for H&S at work Text Body and Content

9 Benefits for employers To see what young people are learning in their courses- it’s good for the industry Employers can promote the attitudes and skills they want in their industry To identify young people with potential for your industry Employers can get a better standing in the community, they have something to show to your clients (CSR) Mentoring staff increases their skills while teaching Employers give students the knowledge of the value of work and raise the quality of those coming to work for your industry Text Body and Content

10 Guidle GUIDELINES FOR EMPLOYERS should contain : Explanation what is expected from them to teach a young person in workplacement? Legal requirements and paperwork needed Tips how to provide a safe workplace for young persons What to do in case of accidents and emergencies A checklist -BEFORE for planning and preparing for workplacement learning -DURING- providing a quality workplacement learning experience -Coaching tips for employers, motivation messages, good practice examples.
