3. Arrival/Departure: Students must be inside the gym at 7:50. School dismisses at 2:30 p.m. Second grade is dismissed from the front doors, unless your child has a younger sibling, then they are dismissed with their younger sibling’s class. Communication Folder: Your child should return his/her folder empty each day- with only completed homework or papers for me or the office.

4. Attendance/Absences/Tardies: If a child is tardy, the parents must accompany their child to the office to fill out a late slip. If a child is tardy for three consecutive days, the parents will be notified to meet with Mrs. Carney and me.  Please send in absence notes the next day your child returns to school. If an absence note is not sent in, it will be considered as an illegal absence. If your child is leaving early for a doctor’s appointment or other personal reasons please send in a note notifying me so that your child will be ready to go. Check out school website for a copy of school’s absent note!

5. Birthdays: Cookies or cupcakes may be sent in to school with your child in the morning. No goody bags will be given out in class. Please send in a note 2-3 days in advance to let me know that if you will be sending in treats for a birthday party. If a child is having a party at home, invitations MAY NOT be sent out from school unless the whole class is invited. Remember we are a peanut free classroom!

6. Classroom Rules Please review these rules at home. The rules are: Listen and follow directions. Treat others with kindness. Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat. Make good choices. Do your best.

7. School Heading The students have been practicing the school heading during the first week of school. The school heading must be on all assignments completed on loose leaf. The school heading is: St. Anthony First and last name date Subject Gr. 2

8. In second grade, students must know their addition and subtraction facts. Families are encouraged to practice flash cards daily. Students will be given timed addition and subtraction quizzes throughout the year. Flashcards

9. Daily 5 Reading Students must bring in a Daily 5 Reading folder by Friday. All completed Daily 5 classwork will be filed in their folder until the end of the year. Daily 5 Reading Read to Self: Please always provide your child with two chapter books or several picture books. Students will fill out task cards during Daily 5. Read to Someone: Students will read with someone and fill out a task card together in their reading notebook. The children will be able to present their task cards to improve on their speaking and presenting skills.

10. Daily 5 Reading Word Work: Students will have the opportunity to practice their spelling words by completing various activities such as Rainbow Brite, using the dictionary, writing the words in alphabetical order, and writing the words in sentences. Work on Writing: Students will be given a topic sentence for the week to write about. The children may write three or more sentences with correct punctuation, capitalization, and grammar usage. Listen to reading: Students will participate in a reading group guided by the teacher. They will be able to read and discuss the story and answer questions based on what they read.

11. Daily 3 Mathematics Math by myself: Students will work independently on various activities Math with someone: Students will work in small groups on various activities Math writing: Studenst will be able to write and create math word problems based on the topic we are learning.

12. Monthly Reading Log: Students are encouraged to read for 15-20m minutes daily. Students will be given a monthly book report that will be due at the end of the month. Please refer to the my webpage for more details. Please provide your child with two chapter books from home. Students will be given the opportunity to read when their work is completed early or during snack/bathroom time. Money Money brought to school for any event, lunch,or fundraiser should be the exact amount. The money should be placed in an envelope with your child’s name and grade.

13. Homework  Children who bring their homework late will be put in the homework book and points will be deducted. The child will receive an OOPS NOTICE and must complete it that night. The notice must be signed by a parent.  Homework will be written in their assignments pads. It will be posted on the school website also.  Check out the website for more hw information!

14. Grading Scale Grading Scale The grading scale is the following: Tests- 45% Quizzes- 25% Class participation- 20% Homework- 10%

15. Assessments Assessments Tests: Tests will always be announced 3 days in advance. Quizzes will be announced 1-2 days in advance. If a test is missed because of absence, the student will be given two days to makeup the test. It is the student’s responsibility to come to me and let me know that he or she is ready to take the makeup test. Friday’s spelling tests will not be made up.

16. Test Folders Graded tests are returned in the test folders on Thursdays, they must be signed by a parent and returned on Friday. If a child has a grade lower than 70, the child must take that test home on Friday to make corrections and return it Monday morning. The corrections must be checked and signed by a parent.
