2 APAN Lambda BoF 2 The Revolution of TANet2  TANet2 is a national research network, in operation since 1998 to serve researchers in academia and research centers with direct circuits to Internet2 community.  Since 2004, the domestic backbone has been reformed with 20G capacity known as TWAREN (TaiWan Advanced Research and Education Network).  The international circuits are reorganized with state-of-the-art optical technologies served by TAIWANLight.

5 APAN Lambda BoF 5 Lightpath Definition  A lightpath is a point-to-point channel which the NIC takes as a dedicated line with a given service level guarantee.  SONET/SDH TDM channel  WDM wavelength  MPLS layer-2 VPN  any concatenation of the above  Only one hop between the endpoints of a lightpath!

7 APAN Lambda BoF 7 Lightpath Customers  Video streaming testbed among NCTU, NTU, NCKU and NSYSU.  Medical images and data transmission between NTU Hospital and its Yunlin division.  Volumes of data synchronization between the headquarter of National Health Research Institutes in Zhunan and its office in Taipei.

12 APAN Lambda BoF 12 January 2005 Upgrade  In partnership with Chunghwa Telecom. (Its overseas division, TWGate), won the recent open tender. Circuit due for completion by 1.31.  New circuit with installation of ONS devices at five- points:  STTL, Palo Alto, LA, Chicago, NYC  In Chicago, there is one more colo-site at Equinix besides STARLight.  Combined bandwidths for the X-Pacific links (un- protected) is 4.5 Gb/s, ea. at 2.5 Gb/s shy.
