Habit 2: See-Do-Get Get Do See I visualize results. I have a mission statement that identifies my life goals. I live according to my mission.

Key Questions Why is it important to have a plan? – Without a plan you follow, not lead. – Should you go through life hoping someone will tell you what to do and when? – In order to control your universe, you must be at the center of it!!!! – SHAPE YOUR OWN FUTURE!! How do I create a Personal Mission Statement ® ?

Mission Statement or How to Incorporate Habit 2 into your life Represents what you want to be and do. Reaffirms who you are, puts your goals in focus and moves your ideas into the real world. The sooner you have a clear vision of what you want to be and the contributions you want to make, the more effective you will be in life.

Personal Mission Statement Addresses all significant roles in my life. Communicates my values and my vision. Are written to inspire me, not to impress anyone else. Describe who I want to become.

Mission Statement Start by thinking of your goals for the semester How do you expect to achieve those goals? Focus on what you want to be Think about how you can be the person you want to be Can be a list or a story

More Mission Statement Concepts Identify the roles in your life: child, friend, student, worker, etc Think about the long term goals for each role Reflect on your deepest values, your unique talents, your sense of mission Focus on results, not activities Start with a list of your goals

Brainstorming – Personal Mission Statement Identify one person who had a positive influence on your life. – What qualities do you admire in this person? – What qualities did you gain from this person? (Take 2 -3 minutes to write your responses)

More Brainstorming Ideas When I daydream, what do I see myself doing? If I had unlimited time and resources, what would I choose to do? When I look at my life, which activities do I consider to be of greatest worth? What do I consider to be my most important future contributions to others? What do I deeply enjoy doing? What talents do I have, whether developed or undeveloped? What qualities of character do I most admire in others and would like to emulate?

Another Brainstorming Idea Determine what is important today. List 10 things that are most rewarding to you today. – What do you live for? – What do you love in life?

First Draft – Mission Statement Step away from the Brainstorming. Come back later/few days Review/re-read/revise Circle the key ideas, words, phrases Write your Personal Mission Statement You will revise it over time as your roles and accomplishments change
