7 In AVID, Tutorials are a way of helping students with their academic classes. This takes place of the Inquiry part of WICOR Students fill out a Tutorial Request Form (TRF) which includes the initial question (where the question came from.), Key Academic Vocabulary, an attempt to solve or answer the questions, steps, and the point of confusion. In a Tutorial Session, the students are divided into groups and one student will present their Point of Confusion to the group. Then the other students will guide the presenter into answering their POC by asking the presenter questions. When the presenter has answered his/her problem then the next student in the group goes to board and present. 8 Socratic Seminars is when a group discusses a certain topic and shares their opinion. In AVID we perform Socratic seminars because with our reading skills which is an important part of WICOR. In Socratic Seminars, AVID students get to read and interact with the text. Students make notes on the margins and produce an opening statement. The class then sits in either inner circle or outer circle. The students in the inner circle discuss their opening statements and discuss their opinion on the text.

9 AVID will help students get in to college and complete college. AVID students will perform rigorous activities that guide the students to success. In AVID, students are expected to hold an AVID binder which trains the student to be organized and to not lose home work. Cornell Note taking is a research proven method of learning. The right side includes your main notes. The left side includes your questions. At the end of the page is your summary of the main notes. Tutorials help AVID students with their academic studies. Students learn from their question and also learn something new from other tutorials. Socratic Seminar helps the students talk and discuss the topic. This also helps the students with critical thinking. Oral communication is important to college.
