 METHODOLOGY To determine the effect of the different variables, a set of a little over 1000 random, unique photos (uploaded by judg.me users) was analyzed (Figure 1). The differences across the images constituted the 12 variables, which were then statistically assessed to determine their influence, if any, on users’ ratings of the smartness and social skills of the subjects. At least 100 judgers rated each image on both traits. Figure 1: Two different types of subjects – a White male, outdoors, wearing sunglasses, and an Asian male, indoors, with no glasses For full report, go herehere

Evidence below. Make a claim, then a warrant Wearing glasses makes one appear smarter but less sociable; wearing sunglasses, on the other hand, makes one appear less smart, but more sociable. This could be because spectacles are typically associated with intellectual hobbies and professions, while sunglasses are associated with outdoors.

Why is it important?

Steps to Analysis ? Depends on you! No “right way” to do it The tough part is you have to think about it! It’s not obvious 1. What is the text about? (basic plot, subject, content) 2. How does the author create meaning? (literary devices)What stands out? What patterns or contrasts do you see? 3. Make connections.

Steps to Analysis 1. What is the text about? (subject/content) 1. What are the topics? 2. What does the author have to say about these topics? (Themes?) 2. How does it create meaning? (literary devices) 1. Look at the LD that the author uses and explain how they create meaning 1. Harper Lee’s use of the mockingbird as a symbol stands for the innocent characters of the novel; these characters should be protected from societal evils. 3. Make connections.
