Objectives In this module you will learn: Types of Awards Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

What is POP Discount? P – O – P stands for Point Of Purchase. In other words a discount given to the customer at the time of purchase. When POP was first developed it was designed as a fuel discount given to the customer at the time they purchased their fuel. This discount could be set up to work both at the dispenser and inside the store. Many of the hyper-markets were giving customers fuel discounts at the time of purchase providing they were a member or had a special credit card. VeriFone locations were looking for this same type of technology in order to stay competitive with hyper-markets. Overview POP Discount Overview

Since the development of the POP Discount functionality, VeriFone has added other types of discounts other than fuel. This has allowed our customers – VeriFone Sites – to not only stay competitive, but also give the sites more flexibility in how and what types of discounts can be given at the time of purchase. One thing to keep in mind in regard to the functionality for POP Discount is that the functionality is directly related to the base number of the software. Overview POP Discount Overview

For example, Base 147 includes the POP Discount functionality. Base 147 was one of the first bases to include this feature. If you have two VeriFone POS systems sitting side by side, one with Base 147 and one with Base 160, both would have the POP Discount functionality. However the features within the POP Discount functionality would be different. Typically the higher the base the more features and functionality. Overview POP Discount Overview

In order to set up a POP Discount you first need to determine: 1. The type of award to give to the customer, and 2. The criteria the customer must meet in order to qualify for the award. In other words, not all customers get a discount. Customers will qualify for an award based on specific criteria. For example, if the customer purchases the Deluxe Car Wash they will receive a fuel discount of 5 cents off per gallon. In the above example the customer will only receive the fuel discount providing they purchase the Deluxe Car Wash. Overview POP Discount Overview

There are three different types of awards you can give a customer. They are: 1. FUEL DISCOUNT at the time of purchase. 2. CODE to be used for a future Fuel Discount. 3. COUPON to be used on a future purchase The coupon is usually for an item inside the store. It is usually used to motivate a customer to come into the store. If a site is looking for an easy way to get customers coming back to their store the code and coupon functionality may motivate the customer to return to the store in the future. Types of Awards POP Discount Overview

Criteria can be defined as a rule or an activity the customer must complete in order to receive a discount. There are six different types of criteria. They are: 1. PLU 2. MOP 3. Credit Card 4. Minimum Dollar Amount Purchased 5. Minimum Dollar Amount Purchased in a Specific Department 6. Membership Let’s look at each of the above criteria in more detail. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

PLU With this type of criteria, the customer must purchase a specific PLU in order to receive a discount. The most common type of PLU POP Discount is requiring the customer to purchase a specific car wash. Providing the customer purchases this car wash they will receive a fuel discount at the time of purchase. Most sites using this type of discount will have the functionality available both outside at the dispenser as well as inside the store. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

MOP With this type of criteria the customer must pay with a specific Method Of Payment. An example would be a customer purchases fuel using cash and receives 3 cents off their fuel today. This is a common POP Discount for two reasons. One, the customer will need to come into the store – if a customer comes into the store it is likely they may purchase another item inside the store. Secondly, credit card purchases cost the store more because of a transaction fee, with cash purchases there is no transaction fee. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

Credit Card With this type of criteria the customer must pay using a specific credit card. For example at a Citgo site the customer must use their Citgo credit card in order to receive an award. This is a common POP Discount because the site will not pay a transaction fee when a major oil credit card is used. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

Minimum Dollar Amount Purchased With this type of criteria the customer must purchase at least a minimum amount in the store in order to receive an award. With this type of discount the location is forcing a minimum dollar amount. For example a customer may need to purchase at least $30 in order to receive a fuel discount. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

Minimum Dollar Amount Purchased in a Specific Department This criteria is similar to the previous except that the location is forcing the customer to purchase from a specific department. For example a Site Manager wishes to promote his Deli Department. He may wish to set up a POP Discount forcing the customer to purchase at least $10 in the Deli Department in order to receive an award. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview

Membership Some sites may offer customers a membership card or tag. Providing the customer is a member they will receive an award. The most common type of membership is a bar coded tag the customer is given. Each time they wish to use the tag it will be scanned. Types of Criteria POP Discount Overview
