2  The Council of Europe is the international Organization of the European countries, constituted in London in 1949 with the objective to reach a greater integration among his members. The Council of Europe was the first European structure created after the second world war

6 ROLE OF THE COUNCIL  The primary functions of the Council of Europe are: to favor democracy, to defend human rights and to promote justice in the world. The Council also has to promote European cultural equality and to constitute a forum of international debate, for example the issues of intolerance and racism, the integration of immigrants, terrorism and the international traffic of weapons and drugs, also ethical problems set by the development of the biotecnologies etc. 

8 ORGANIZATION  The component parts of the Council are: a Secretary General; a Committee of the ministers (the decision-making part); a Parliamentary Assembly constituted by 630 representatives of the national parliaments; a Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (630 members). 

10  The resolutions adopted by the Assembly have to be approved by the majority of the Council of Ministers before being addressed to the other members.

12  The activity of the Council, favoring economic integration and politics among the European countries, has contributed to the creation of the European Community of the production of minerals (coal and steel), of the EFTA and of the European Economic Community, today form the European Union. 

13  The Council of the Ministers and the Assembly meet in an annual session in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The two organs can also be summoned for additional sessions.
