3 Meet the Monarch. The monarch is orange and black. It has wings. The wingspan Is from 8 to 10 cm. They are insects and have 6 legs. The eggs are creamy white and later yellow. The chrysalis is blue green with a band of black and gold.

4 Home Sweet Home The monarch lives in forest, gardens, fields, meadows,
prairies, and suburban areas. They range from southern Canada to northern South America.

5 Dinner Time The monarch eats milkweed plants when caterpillars. They drink nectar when adults.

6 Adaptations They are poisonous or taste badly to birds and mammal. Some migrate south and lay eggs there for the next generation.
