HIGHER EDUCATION Higher education (also referred to as post- secondary, tertiary or third level education), is an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after secondary education.

EDUCATION IN INDIA It’s a well established fact that India is going downhill in science education and research, despite of relative huge increase in funding and being the major technical manpower supplier for IT and global research community, successfully undertaking Moon mission and so on. I am wondering how we can regain our lost glory and improve on that so far our science education and research is concerned. I am mentioning some remedies below that came to my mind.

GAPS IN HIGHER EDUCATION 1. No minimum standard of giving degrees… 2. Institutions are not graded equally… 3. No substantially on primary and higher school… 4. No tenure track system… 5. Appointment of ministers… 6. No change from the initial level… 7. Lack of facility and opportunity for students in rural areas… 8. Lack of government institutes…

1. STANDARD OF DEGREES There is no sought of equal standard of providing degrees to students in a university or institute.

2. INSTITUTIONS ARE NOT GRADED EQUALLY Institutions are not graded and judged equally all over the country. UGC has started this but not with much cooperation from universities and so-called elite institutes and with very limited success so far.

3. NO SUBSTANTIALLY IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS There is no substantially in primary and secondary school. Students are not aware about the indian educational system.

4. NO TENURE SYSTEM There is no tenure system in india for students and this is the reason why india is lacking in a good educational system.

5. APPOINTMENT OF MINISTERS There are no policies and strategies of appointing the educational ministers. If the chief of IIM and IIT are selected on the basis of their education then why educational ministers are not selected in the same way???Why they are elected???

6. NO CHANGE FROM THE INITIAL LEVEL There is no change in primary education. Nowadays, physical activities are lacking in students at primary and secondary level.

7. LACK OF FACILITY IN RURAL AREAS There is lack of facility and opportunity in rural areas especially for students of india. There are no universities for students in rural areas for poor people.

8. Lack of government institutes There is a lack of government institutes for many courses. For instance: There is no university for CA and CS. Government do not recognize these courses as professional degrees while these courses of india are given importance all over the world.

SOLUTIONS TO THESE PROBLEMS 1. Equal standard for giving degrees… 2. All institutes/universities should be equally graded… 3. Increase spending substantially on primary and higher school… 4. Start tenure track system… 5. Appointment of ministers… 6. Change from the initial level… 7. Good facilities should be provided in rural areas…

1. SOLUTION Private institutes and universities must follow a minimum standard to give degrees and there should be no sought of partiality in that.

2.SOLUTION All institutes/ universities should be graded and judged as per their performance and public monetary support should depend on that. (UGC has started this but not with much cooperation from universities and so-called elite institutes and with very limited success so far).

3. SOLUTION. Increase spending substantially on primary and high school education (Both qualitative and quantitative). Increase the salaries of teachers at least at per with university lecturers and put stringent quality control while recruiting the teachers and introduce accountability among them. We must increase substantially the number of primary schools and quality of those and improve on physical infrastructures like school buildings, a minimum standard of school laboratory and library, a decent play ground, some internet connected computers in libraries etc.

5. SOLUTION Ministers should be selected on the basis of education. So, they can understand our educational system in much better way and can make new policies to improve it.

6. SOLUTION Change the education system from the primary level (reduce work load, put more importance on physical activities, encourage original thinking etc). There should not be any form of evaluation (exam or so) till age 10 years (i.e., till class 4 level). Subsequently the exam patterns should change and put more emphasis on original thinking and problem solving rather than emphasizing database-quiz type format. Basic education should be in mother tongue but English also should be compulsory from class 1.

7. SOLUTION Provide increased opportunities for students in rural and semi-urban India (in form of transparent information dissemination, transparent selection for fellowship/scholarships and recruitments). For the long run: Abolish reservation policy altogether. Provide quality primary and high school education free for all.

SO, HIGHER EDUCATION MEANS TO LEARN NOT TO TRAIN.
