2 What are we influenced by?
People- friends, family peers, famous people, athletes, movie/TV stars, politicians, clergy etc. Media- news, advertisements, billboards, radio, commercials, computers Culture

3 Guidelines for Analyzing Influences on Health
Does it promote…. healthy behavior? safe behavior? legal behavior? Behavior that follows guidelines of adults including my parents or guardian? Does it respect myself and others? Does it demonstrate good character?

4 What do companies do to get you to choose their product?
Brand loyalty- “I only wear Nike shoes” False image- If you smoke, you will be cool (KOOL) NOT! Bandwagon- everyone else uses this product NOT! Humor-catchy jingle, hooks you Glittering generality-appeal to emotions, you need this to live, you must have it NOT! Scientific evidence- uses data from surveys or tests-where did the data come from? Progress-the newest model Reward-special prize or gift, but that’s not all Sex-sexy people, product will make you more attractive Testimonial- it worked for me, no evidence

5 Take out your health product advertisement again.
Take out a sheet of paper Put your name in the upper right corner Answer the 8 questions on page 37 using your ad
