Experiments He looked for people with unique hereditary traits (dwarfs, giants, people with club foot and his special interest were twins) He believed that if they could get rid of all of the non- Aryans and he could find the secret of the twins (of every Aryan woman being able to have blond-hair and blue-eyed twins, the world would be “saved”)

Twins Large amounts of blood was drawn from arms He would try to make people have blue eyes (drops or injections of chemicals were put in the eyes) Diseases would be injected into one twin and see how it affected the other one When they were “done” they would kill the person (fastest way was to inject chloroform or phenol in their hearts)

After Auschwitz He fled in January 1945 In 1949- he escaped to Argentina June 7, 1959-West Germany issues its arrest warrant for Mengele 1964-Universities of Frankfurt and Munich withdraw academic degrees 1979-Was buried in a grave under Wolfgang Gerhard ’ s name

Auschwitz Arrived in December 1942 to Block 10 He would inject liquid acids into their uterus without anesthetics Women died from horrible pain and bleeding After death, he would remove their ovaries and send them to Berlin for further analysis

Leaving Auschwitz He escaped the Red Army and went to Ravensbruck where he continued experiments It is estimated that he killed about 700 women 1948- put to trial in Soviet Union and sentenced to 25 years 7 years later- he was released and returned to Federal Republic of Germany Survivors protest and was arrested in 1955 but died 1957 before going to trial

Similarities They both followed other people’s ideas (Mengele-- Rosenberg and Clauberg-- NSDAP) They both wanted to do “good for the people” Both were arrested and released and arrested again Both worked at Auschwitz Both had “special interest” in a certain type of group

Differences Clauberg started off good (kind of) Mengele always believed that Aryan race was superior Mengele had a special interest in twins, dwarfs, and giants Clauberg had a special interest in women and babies Clauberg had nothing to do with selection Mengele helped with selection and was harsh and cruel about it
