Summary of UN/ECE/WP29 Plenary Meetings  Since the 28 th APEC Meeting,  Two WP29 plenary meetings (140 th and 141 th ) were held in November 2006 and March 2007, respectively.  140 th Plenary Meeting - 52 draft amendments to existing ECE regulations were adopted - 3 GTRs were adopted  141st Plenary Meeting - 18 draft amendments to existing ECE regulations were adopted - Two new draft regulations were adopted

Reports of the 140 th Plenary Meeting (1)  Held 140 th session from 14 to 17 November 2006  35 countries, including Australia; Canada; Japan; People’s Republic of China; Korea; Malaysia; US and other countries from APEC region and European Community (EC)  and 10+ Non-governmental organizations, including OICA and IMMA, took part in the WP29 plenary meetings. ATTENDANCE

5 5  Consideration of draft amendments to existing regulations  Total 57 draft amendments were submitted to AC.1 for vote  Total 52 draft amendments were adopted. - 20/21 for GRE, 12/12 for GRSP, 3/3 for GRRF, 6/6 for GRPE, 1/1 for GRB, and 10/14 for GRSG) 1958 Agreement  Consideration of new draft Regulations : 2 docs. were deferred  Draft Regulation on Forward Field of Vision  Draft Regulation on Partitioning Systems  Deferred Items to the November 2006 session : 5 documents  GRE : R48 (Mandatory installation and automatic activation of DRL)  GRSG : R36, R46, R52 and R107 2. Reports of the 141 st Plenary Meeting (1)  Held 141 th session from 13 to 16 March 2007  33 countries, including Australia; Japan; People’s Republic of China; Korea; Malaysia; US and other countries from APEC region and European Community (EC)  and 10+ Non-governmental organizations, including OICA and IMMA, took part in the WP29 plenary meetings. ATTENDANCE General Statements  Stressed the importance of the reduction of CO 2 emissions from the transport sector to fight against the global warming

10 10  Consideration of draft amendments to existing regulations  Total 19 draft amendments were submitted to AC.1 for vote  Total 18 amendments were adopted. - 0/1 for GRE, 1/1 for GRSP, 7/7 for GRRF, and 10/10 for GRSG) 1958 Agreement 3. Reports of the 141 st Plenary Meeting (2)  Status of the Agreement  Accession of Montenegro to the 1958 Agreement  Now 47 contracting parties to the 1958 Agreement.

11 11  Consideration of new draft Regulations : 2 docs. were adopted  Draft Regulation on Forward Field of Vision  Draft Regulation on Partitioning Systems - To protect passengers against displaced luggage, supplied as non- original vehicle equipment  Deferred Items to the November 2007 session : 1 documents  GRE : R48 (DRL installation) - The internal procedures of formal adoption for mandatory installation and automatic activation of DRL were still in progress 3.
