2.  In 2007, Senate Bill 1031 called for the development of End-of-Course exams in 12 courses. ◦ Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry ◦ Biology, Chemistry, and Physics ◦ English I, English II, and English III ◦ World Geography, World History, and U.S. History

3.  The first EOCs will be administered to students in Freshmen level courses beginning the 2011-2012 school year.  The purpose of EOCs is to... ◦ Measure students’ progress in core academic courses ◦ Determine college readiness ◦ Become part of graduation requirements

4.  EOCs will be worth 15% of the student’s final grade for each course.  Students may retake an EOC as many times as they wish; however HISD will not consider retakes towards course grades, GPA, or class rank.

5.  There will be campus developed end of semester exams as well as EOCs.  The EOC exam will count as 15% of the final course average, and we will assign the following numerical grades for student results: ◦ Students who earn a commended (or college ready score) will receive a 100% ◦ Students who pass the EOC will receive a 90% ◦ Students who fail the EOC will receive a 68%

6.  HISD cannot award course credit for a 1 st semester course until the EOC test results are returned to our district by the state. Final grades for EOC course will be calculated as follows: ◦ First semester average42.5% ◦ Second semester average42.5% ◦ EOC exam15%

7.  The first administration will count as 15% of a student’s final course grade.  Additionally, they count as a separate graduation requirement where students must earn a certain cumulative score on 12 tests. The state has not determined what this score will be.

8.  EOC grades will be used for class rank purposes, However **Beginning with this year's 9th grade class: ◦ Only the Top 10% will be ranked and provided a seal of achievement. ◦ The top 25% will be calculated for accuracy. ◦ Valedictorian and Salutatorian will remain as is. This is required by statute. ◦ No other class ranks will be provided. This is new and will only apply to the current 9th grade class and subsequent classes thereafter.

9.  For the 2011-2012 school year forward, all students will receive either 3 points or 5 points for weighted courses completed. ◦ Three weighted points will be applied to designated honors classes and 5 additional weighted points will be applied to defined advanced classes. ◦ The reported GPA on student transcripts will be a “weighted GPA,” however, weights will not be added to individual course grades on transcripts. ◦ The class rank will continue to be reflective of a weighted GPA per policy.

10.  As long as a student passes the class (70), the EOC mathematically will not negate the credit.  Credits for EOC classes will have to be calculated as full 1 yr. credits rather than 1/2 credits as they have in the past.
