4 War Hawks Senator Henry Clay of Kentucky led this group to declare war against Great Britain The War of 1812 began Despite a strong British army, the U.S. won a few battles at sea

5 The War at Sea Britain and France were fighting and the U.S. was working to stay neutral The British began taking American sailors off their ships to serve in the British navy

6 War on Land The Native Americans sided with the British and won several victories near the Great Lakes In 1814, British troops burned the capital city of Washington D.C. Francis Scott Key watched Baltimore fall and wrote the Star Spangled Banner

7 Battle of New Orleans A peace treaty was signed in 1814 and the war ended News did not reach General Andrew Jackson and he defeated the British at New Orleans a few weeks later Who won?
