COME BACK AT THE END TO AD ANOTHER INFERENCE IF YOU HAVE TIME, JUST TO MAKE SURE. Choose one and explain it (9 marks) e.g. Choose one and explain their importance in dealing with lawlessness in the American West. Choose one and explain why it changed their traditional way of life. Start the answer properly Write 2 paragraphs, come back an add a third if you have time at the end. It is important that you get on to answering 3, 4 +5 as soon as possible. Write in detail including facts, stats, dates, names etc… Don’t just list. Explain why. (12 marks)e.g. Why did the cattle industry grow so quickly in the years 1865-85? Why did so many people make the difficult journey west across America in the 1840s and 1850s? Why did white settlers often find it difficult to understand the culture of the Plains Indians? Start the answer properly. Try to explain more than one reason in detail. Do 2 paragraphs and come back and add a 3 rd at the end if you have time. Include as many facts, stats, details, laws, dates as possible to support. You can’t get more than 7 marks unless you write a paragraph about something other than what is in the two bullet points. Describe Q (a) (9 marks) e.g. Describe the importance of the buffalo to the lives of the Plains Indians Describe the role of the mountain men in the development of the American West in the 1840s. This requires a lot of revision to do effectively. Write as much as you can on the topic including key dates, names, places, laws and facts. Don’t just list things, you have to try to describe them in detail. Try to group info into 3 paragraphs. Do 2 paras, come back to do 3 if time. Hypothesis (b) (16 marks) e.g. “Technology was the most important factor in solving problems faced by homesteaders in the 1870s and 1880s.” Do you agree? ‘Women played an important part in the homesteaders’ settlement of the Plains.’ Do you agree? Max of 7 marks if you only write about what’s in two bullet points. One sentence intro. One paragraph must be on the first bullet point. One paragraph on second bullet point. One paragraph on something that isn’t in bullet points. End with a conclusion that is focussed on the question and picks 1/2 key supporting bits of evidence from answer.
