1 Ms. Harris’ Class Happenings Edition 10: 11/14/13 Can you believe how cold it has gotten?? I had to double check the calendar, I thought for sure it might be January! No matter the weather outside, we are still hard at work here in room 113. Second quarter is full speed ahead and the students are working hard. We had a great week so be sure to take a peak at all that has happened! Literacy Students are still analyzing characters within their books. We are focusing on characters and how they develop within a series. This week we focused on noticing the problems a character encounters as well as how those characters deal with the problems. We also worked on making predictions based on the patterns we have noticed our characters demonstrating. Students have enjoyed reading in a series book with their partners these past couple weeks! Math Students loved going to the computer lab on Tuesday to create their bar graphs in excel! After we tested on Wednesday we began our geometry unit. Students spent Thursday building triangles to notice their attributes and will spend Friday analyzing quadrilaterals and their attributes. PLEASE go over the vocabulary in their interactive notebook nightly as this is unit is very heavy with new vocabulary! Science This week we continued with our study of Matter! Students’ favorite part of the week was making ice cream in a bag to help them understand how matter changes from a liquid to a solid. Please see the attached recipe for a fun and easy activity to do at home! Social Studies Students took their social studies assessment on Monday and we began our new unit on individual’s roles within their community. We specifically focused on the roles of adults and children in their home, community and the workplace. Share with your child the many different roles you have as an adult! Spelling Bee!
