8  When Jesus was glorified by means of His cross and resurrection, and had sent forth His Spirit (16:12, 13), all this became clear to them. ~ The Holy Spirit would open their eyes to the meaning of the Old Testament Scriptures and remind them of this and other messianic predictions (Jn 14:26).

9  Stop and think about the events in your life that God has used to lead you to this point. ~ As you grow older, you will look back and see God’s involvement more clearly than you do now.  The “disciples did not understand at the first” because they did not have the Scriptures as their guide to direct their minds to right thinking and understanding.

10 ~ We are blind unless God’s Word leads the way. ~ Nor is it even enough that the Word of God should shine on us, unless the Holy Spirit enlightens our eyes, which would otherwise be blind even to the brightest truths. ~ From this example we learn to make our judgments about everything that relates to Christ not through our own unspiritual feelings, but from the Scriptures.
