What is it? Why are we doing it? How are we doing it?

What is an ORCID? Started as Open Researcher and Contributor ID (but now just ORCID). 16 digit number; groups of 4 digits. Controlled by researcher. Can suppress select data elements except the ORCID itself. Include with new publications to unambiguously identify the author. (e.g., Bell, D.is NOT Dorothy Bell or David Bell.)

Partners Publishers Professional organizations Universities Research organizations Database providers PubMed Scopus Web of Science Vendors Symplectic Elements ) Funders UCLA is a member of ORCIDmember The ORCID Community

The UCLA Library’s Role Web site feature to link ORCIDs with UID. Part of a suite of services to faculty. Main objective: link University ID (UID) to ORCID. Provide UID and ORCID to: Opus CDL’s Publications Management System Share Drupal module with other institutions. Bulk assignment by department –Initiate Fall 2015

Orientation Insert information about ORCID in to the traveling OPUS seminars Email What an ORCID is & the benefits to you Encourage self registration, however if you do nothing we will automatically assign one in 10 days Option to opt out ID Opt outs Self-registered Batch assignment Employ Drupal module using ORCID API to assign ORCID and connect with UID Verify Email generated from ORCID asking for verification of assignment ORCID Batch Assignment/Connect with UID Workflow

ORCID Publisher Workflow Streamline data input Disambiguate authors Create author links Reduce reporting burden for authors Support peer review process Support conflict of interest reporting Researcher starts manuscript submission Manuscript submission system asks researcher to update author profile with ORCID Manuscript processed and content published Metadata and ORCID deposited to CrossRef ORCID::DOI pairing submitted to ORCID ORCID record updated Perspective & Workflow
