7 BCC Playing Pitch Strategy The updated PPS provides; Analysis on public, private and education playing pitches Consistent planning approach A tool kit for assessing current and future open space and sports requirements A framework for identifying locations for future built facilities A system for identifying areas with sufficient and insufficient playing pitches Ability to control, rationalise and rotate pitch supply to ensure optimum use and quality Provide robust, appropriate advice on planning applications

15 South Glos PPG17 Audit began in May 2007 to review: –Quantity –Quality –Accessibility Aim – to ensure improvements to existing facilities and new provision where required

16 South Glos. – so far Mapped the majority of existing provision – Access/GIS database Using this to inform current planning decisions Due to begin quality audit in April 2008 Accessibility – Autumn 2008 Considering the presentation of the info – A Green Space Strategy

17 North Somerset Advanced stage with playing pitch and built facilities strategy Work has just begun on Green Spaces Strategy Working together, they aim to draw down developer contributions from emerging LDF up to 2026

18 Bath and North East Somerset Green Space Strategy adopted March 2007 Sets out standards: quantity, distribution, and quality Not an SPD, so success in its use to assess development proposals has been patchy SPD for developer contributions and embracing the GSS to be adopted mid 2008

19 Bath and North East Somerset Playing pitch assessment undertaken several years ago but not formally adopted and has limited weight Plans to refresh the assessment and get it adopted during 2008 Developing Sports Facilities Strategy for adoption in mid 2008, with aim to have this incorporated into the Developer Contributions SPD Both strategies working together aim to have an increasingly significant impact on planning and delivery of green space and sports services
