EOC PRACTICE PREP 3 Remember to always look for formulas if there are values to calculate!

The state of matter defines the motion of molecules. Of the three basic state of matter: Solids have the lowest kinetic energy, liquids have medium kinetic energy and gases have the most kinetic energy. KINETIC THEORY OF MATTER

Elements on the periodic table are arranged from left to right by increasing atomic number. PERIODIC TABLE

Groups/Families on the periodic table are in vertical rows (stacked). Elements in a group are very similar to each other as they have the same number of valence electrons. Elements in the same period on the periodic table do not have very much in common except that they are filling the same electron level. THE PERIODIC TABLE

ISOTOPES Isotopes have the same number of protons (same element) but a different number of neutrons (different mass).

Ionic compounds (metal + non metal) are formed by metals giving (transferring) electrons to non metals (taking). Covalent compounds (non metal + non metal/metalloid) are formed by these atoms sharing electrons to become stable. IONIC AND COVALENT COMPOUNDS

An object falling under gravity will accelerate (fall faster) each second it falls until it reaches its terminal velocity due to increased air resistance. Even though this is the case with the acceleration, gravity and air resistance are never equal and opposite forces or we would observe a dropped object hover in place. GRAVITY AND FALLING OBJECTS

Solutions that have excess hydronium ions (H 3 O + ) or hydrogen (H + ) ions are considered acidic. Solutions that have excess hydroxide ions (OH - ) are considered to be basic. Solutions that have an equal number of hydronium and hydroxide ions are neutral. ACIDS, BASES AND NEUTRAL PH

SOLUBILITY CURVES Solubility curves show how many grams of a substance will dissolve at a given temperature in a solution. On this graph, at what temperature will 75 grams of KNO 3 dissolve in 100 grams of water to form a saturated solution?

Simple machines make it easier to do work by: changing force applied changing distance force is applied changing direction a force is applied MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE
