1 Friday 2/27/14  RAP  Questions on assembly? Video clip of freedom riders.  During or after a war (WWII, Iraq, etc.), what factors would you look at to determine if a battle was significant to the war?  TODAY:  SWBAT understand significant battles / events of WWII by analyzing information and creating a poster depicting their account of the battle /event. Each student will also choose 3 battles they feel were the most significant and write an essay discussing why those three were the most significant using facts to justify their picks.

2 Today  Letter to Mr. Jim Zwerg  Battle groups – work on poster or brainstorm for PPT –20 minutes  Presentations: Battle of Britain --- Tuesday Pearl Harbor --- Tuesday  Finish reading and taking notes on Ch. 15.3  Work on map

3 ASSEMBLY POST-LESSON: PLEASE WRITE A LETTER TO MR. ZWERG. Thank him for coming to speak to us. What was the most interesting/important thing you learned? I felt …. You inspired me to ….

4 Battle-Stations  In a group of three or four, you will have 4 minutes to read and assess a battle. Please fill out your graphic organizers for each battle as you read about it. Remember you will be writing a paper on the three battles you feel were most significant to WWII.  At the end of the 4 minutes, you will pass the battle to the next group in numerical order (i.e., 2’s go to 3’s, 10’s to J’s, Q’s back to 2’s)  The last battle station– Create a poster depicting this battle. You will present this battle / event next Wednesday.  At the conclusion of the exercise, please select the three events you felt were the most significant. You will have the rest of the class period on Wednesday and the long four day weekend to compose an essay where you discuss why those three were the most significant. Use your information from the activity. If you feel you need to include more, you are free to conduct research, but BE SURE TO CITE YOUR SOURCES. DUE MONDAY Monday March 10th!!

5 Battle Poster  Each group will create a poster on the last battle they read.  Posters / PPT  Title your poster  Have map – location  Show significance of battle  Date  Important people, facts, etc.  You can add your opinion on the battle at the end of your presentation.  Presentation  Each person must present information on battle Use a note card or make a note card to use.
