End of Course Exams (state testing for high school students: must master exams in English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and US History) Foundation High School Plan (curriculum requirements) Endorsements (coursework related to specific career interest that will allow for advanced learning) See chisd.net/HB5 for details (Parents…House Bill 5)

4 Foundation High School Plan + 2 = 24 Credits English Language Arts - 4 credits English I English II English III Advanced English Course Mathematics - 3 credits Algebra I Geometry Advanced Mathematics Course Science - 3 credits Biology IPC or Advanced Science Course Advanced Science Course Social Studies - 3 credits U.S. History U.S. Government (one-half credit) Economics (one-half credit) World Geography or World History or Combined World History/World Geography Languages Other Than English 2 credits in the same language Computer programming language (other exceptions) Physical Education - 1 credit Fine Arts - 1 credit Electives – 7 credits* *State requires 22 credits; CHISD will require 2 additional elective credits, pending board approval Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

5 Distinguished Level of Achievement A student may earn a distinguished level of achievement by successfully completing: 4 credits Math which must include Algebra II 4 credits of Science Completion of Curriculum requirement for at least one Endorsement Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

7 STEM Must Complete Algebra II, Chemistry, Physics A coherent sequence of courses for 4 or more credits in CTE that consist of at least two courses in the same career cluster including at least one advanced CTE course (any course that is the 3 rd or higher course in a sequence); the final course must be selected from the STEM cluster or A total of 5 credits in math by successfully completing Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and 2 additional math courses for which Algebra II is a prerequisite or A total of 5 credits in science by successfully completing biology, chemistry, and physics, and 2 additional science courses or A coherence sequence of 3 additional credits from no more than 2 of the Science, Engineering, and Math areas Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

8 Business and Industry A coherent sequence of courses for 4 or more credits in CTE that consist of at least two courses in the same career cluster including at least one advanced CTE course (any course that is the 3rd or higher course in a sequence); the final course must be selected from the following career clusters: Or 4 English elective credits Agriculture, Food, & Natural ResourcesInformation Technology Arts, A/V Technology & CommunicationsManufacturing Business Management & AdministrationMarketing FinanceTransportation, Distribution &Logistics Hospitality & Tourism Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

9 Arts and Humanities A total of 5 social studies courses or 4 levels of the same language in a Language other than English or 2 levels of the same language in a language other than English and 2 levels of a different language in a language other than English or Coherent sequence of 4 credits from 1 or 2 categories in fine arts Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

10 Public Services A coherent sequence of courses for 4 or more credits in CTE that consist of at least two courses in the same career cluster including at least one advanced CTE course (any course that is the 3 rd or higher course in a sequence); the final course must be selected from the following career clusters: Education and Training Health Science Human Services Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security Or 4 courses in Junior Reserved Officers Training Corps Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

11 Multidisciplinary Studies 4 Advanced courses that prepare a student to enter the workforce successfully or postsecondary education without remediation from within one endorsement area or among endorsement areas that are not in a coherent sequence Or 4 credits in each of the four foundation subject areas to include English IV and chemistry and/or physics Or 4 credits in AP or dual credit selected from English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Economics, languages other than English, or fine arts Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

12 Additional Distinctions Performance Acknowledgement (on diploma and transcript) 12 hours college academic courses or Associates degree while in high school Bilingualism and biliteracy 2 or more languages and other criteria Business or industry certification or license Outstanding performance in Advanced Placement Outstanding performance in PSAT, ACT-Plan, SAT, ACT Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

13 How will this work at Collegiate High School? Upon completing the high school diploma and Associates of Arts Degree, students attending Cedar Hill Collegiate High School will earn: Endorsement in Multidisciplinary Studies Distinguished Achievement Performance Acknowledgements (where students meet criteria) Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

14 How does this affect current high school students? Students currently in high school can choose to graduate with the Foundation High School Plan (with Endorsements) or under the previous Minimum, Recommended, or Distinguished High School Plans Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

15 Personal Graduation Plans New Requirement: All students must complete PGP (Personal Graduation Plan) prior entering High School, that includes the selection of an Endorsement A student may amend his/her personal graduation plan after the initial confirmation of the plan Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

16 Personal Graduation Plan 1.Students first choose career (based on presentations in Career Explorations Course) 2.Students then find career pathway related to chosen career 3.Students then determine Endorsement, indicated by Career Pathway 4.Students then choose elective courses that are offered within Endorsement and Career pathway Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

17 CHISD PGP 1.8 th grade students complete 4 Year plans in 2013-14 to select endorsements and electives 2.Update 4 year plan of courses in Spring of 9 th grade year via Family Access 3.Update Personal Graduation Plan and Course selection each school year until graduation Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

18 PGP in Family Access Access to view your Student’s Course Planning Choices will be available beginning this summer Changes to future course selections will be made each year during future scheduling (course selection) and course planning process Requested changes can be submitted to your child’s assigned counselor using the Longhorn Success Plan Form at chisd.net/hb5 (for requests this summer, submit your signed PGP form to the Department of Student Support and Community Services) Electronic Signature Find more info at chisd.net/HB5

20 CREDITS To graduate, you must obtain all credits and pass the state End of Course (EOC) exams.
