CRITICAL WHAT DO U THINK ? Women drive better than men Last minute worker always end up with a failure We work for money, status, security and comfort in life

SIX STEPS OF CRITICAL THINKING ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE OR INFORMATION COMPREHENDING OR UNDERSTANDING WHAT U READ AND HEAR APPLYING WHAT U UNDERSTAND TO GIVEN SITUATIONS ANALYZING THE INFORMATION THAT U UNDERSTAND SYNTHESIZING AND CREATIVELY USING WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND AND HAVE ANALYZED CRITICALLY EVALUATING WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND AND HAVE ANALYZED OR CREATED

STEP ONE: KNOWLEDGE Acquiring facts and critical information Like specific data, methods, patterns, or ideas Be able to learn, recall, repeat or reproduce that material Knowledge is what is said, written, heard and seen The bigger our base of information the better we function in society

STEP ONE: KNOWLEDGE (cont) Be able to identify what is being said: the topic, the issue, the basis, and the main points.

STEP TWO: COMPREHENSION Understanding the material read, heard or seen Relating it to what u already know Put it into your own words Able to make the material you learn as your own

STEP TWO: COMPREHENSION (cont) Able to Discuss Express Explain Restate Rearrange Summarize Interpret Infer or draw a conclusion

STEP TWO: COMPREHENSION (cont) Go beyond mere reiteration of what was stated to interpret the material and give it your own meaning

STEP THREE: APPLICATION You know something when u are able to do something with it or be able to apply it to an actual situation U know what u have read, heard or seen, and u comprehend them and u are able to apply what u have learnt in an actual situation

STEP THREE: APPLICATION (cont) Able to Apply Illustrate Give example Prepare Predict Demonstrate Dramatize

STEP FOUR: ANALYSIS Involves breaking what you read or hear into its component parts in order to make clear how the ideas are ordered, related, or connected to other ideas.

STEP FOUR: ANALYSIS (cont) Analysis of the form Look for organizational patterns or principles Observe the relationship between the ideas Break down the material into its components

STEP FOUR: ANALYSIS (cont) Analysis of the content Order the material Distinguish main from subordinate ideas Distinguish statement of evidence from hypotheses See assumptions Find evidence Relate one idea to another Compare ideas

STEP FOUR: ANALYSIS (cont) Distinguish conclusions from the evidence that supports them See how the premises connect and are relevant to the conclusion

STEP FIVE: SYNTHESIS The ability to put together the parts you analyzed with other information to create something original Extract data or ideas from variety of sources and come up with your own object, solution, paper, pattern, or organization.

STEP FIVE: SYNTHESIS (cont) Able to Compose Invent Revise Transform Solve

STEP SIX: EVALUATION Once we have understood and analyzed what is said or written and the reasons offered to support it, we can proceed more effectively to evaluate the strength of the position We evaluate to decide whether we should hold or drop the belief from the other 5 steps and should we take action or refrain from it

STEP SIX: EVALUATION (cont) Able to Appraise Assess Evaluate Judge Weigh Rate grade

ACTIVITY BREAK INTO FIVE GROUPS

ACTIVITY IDENTIFY AN AREA WHICH YOUR GROUP OR A MEMBER OF YOUR GROUP IS EXPERT IN

ACTIVITY LIST 5 IMPORTANT KNOWLEDGE THAT SOMEONE NEED TO KNOW IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO PERFORM WELL IN THAT AREA

ACTIVITY DO U AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE LISTED OUT BY THE GROUP WHAT IS YOUR STAND
