3 Generalities This residence was built between 1945 and 1952 by Le Corbusier. It’s an apartment building which counts 337 flats 1887-1965

4 The “Cité Radieuse”also known as a "dwelling unit" is actually a residence built in the form of bars on stilts. Designed by Le Corbusier, the real "city within a city" was built between 1945 and 1952 near the Boulevard Michelet in Marseille. In over 360 duplexes separated by real "internal streets" on the roof, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a nursery school as well as an open-air theater. There are numerous coffees, restaurants, hotels, businesses, grocer's shops, bakeries, etc. … At the beginning, everybody was hostile to the construction of such a building.For the realization of the “Cité Radieuse” in Marseille, Le Corbusier's used a tool of his invention.
