2 Global Change Group Status AApproved 7 BTo be reviewed 4 CRejected18 ?Not yet rated 2 Total31  Getting a methodology approved is not easy. Avoid submitting new methodologies - modify the existing ones. Need to rethink CDM-AR for KP 2? 5200 5200 * Tool for AR Approved Methodologies. Download it at: www.carbonfinance.org www.proyectoforma.com Tools TARAM* (  version)

3 Global Change Group Issues already covered in the approved methodologies Baseline: Degraded lands Grazing lands Agricultural lands Fuel-wood/charcoal Pre-existing AR activities Type of activities: Afforestation, Reforestation Tree planting, agro- forestry, silvo-pastoral, natural regeneration Carbon pools: Above-ground biomass Below-ground biomass Dead wood Litter Soil organic carbon Project emissions: Fossil fuels burning Biomass burning Fertilization Denitrification (NF shrubs) Leakage emissions: Fossil fuels burning, Displacement of activities Enteric fermentation Manure management

4 Global Change Group What should happen next? Approved methodologies are partially redundant. Small errors and inconsistencies are still present. Sometimes unnecessary “carbon purism”. Complexity could damage project initiatives. Time for consolidation? Can we simplify and still be conservative? Can tools be helpful? Could a focus on new “modules” avoid redundancies and a multiplication of methods?
