3 As we can see from these covers, when more than one person is in the cover image, layering is a key element so that the whole band can fit in. I think I will try to use this technique within my cover photograph. This may mean that I have to stray from my flat-plan of the front cover, as the articles may not fit around the sides and might have to go above and below the subjects faces. I will first try to stick top my flat plan though. Who: Local band and friends ‘We Sleep In This Machine’. Where: Deserted warehouse near my home. This adds to the mise en scene of the image, giving connotations of rebellion. In order to give a plainer back ground ( to enable the text to be read) I think I’ll shoot the band against a wall. Costume: The bands normal clothes fit in with the stereotypical conventions of the genre of music I am focussing on already, so I will just try and exaggerate this even more. Props: For this image I don’t think props will be necessary, just the subjects themselves. MAIN SELL LINE Colour: The background will need to be quite faded to make the text clear on the cover. I think the band featured will be in bright vivid colours.

4 Who: Friend Molly Hughes Where: Maybe posed in the recording studio within college to give a naturalistic feel Costume: In this shot only her top will really be visible, so I think I’d like her to wear a band t-shirt. Her hair already fits with the conventions I am looking for. Props: I wanted to use a keyboard/piano within this shot as if the subject is playing. Colour: Vivid bright colours I think will be used within this image. Who: Friend Oliver Sawyer Where: Photography studio within college. Costume: He already fits in with the genre of music, but I have asked him to wear clothes that exaggerate this. (Done up top button, Vans shoes etc.) Props: No props will be used in this shot. Lighting: With this photograph I am wanting to use flat-light so there are no shadows within the image to give a more professional look. Who: Band ‘Glamour of the Kill’ Where: Live gig at local venue. Costume: The subjects will just be wearing their own clothes at is will be live. Colour: I think I will shoot this in black and white. MAIN ARTRICLE IMAGE Who: ‘WSITM’ Where: Live gig at local venue. Costume: Because this image is a live-shot the subjects will just be wearing their own clothes. Props: Musical instruments will obviously be used in this image as it’s a live-shot of the band playing. Colour: I think I’ll shoot these in bright vivid colours, but may edit them later to become monochrome images. EDITOR’S NOTE IMAGE Who: Me Where: At some kind of desk, mimicking other editor’s pictures I have seen. Costume: My normal clothes. Props: A desk and maybe a computer? Or a cup of tea?

5 The way the subjects are looking towards where the text will be I think gives a more professional look to the overall layout. Who: Band ‘We sleep in this machine’. Where: I want this photograph to be taken outside I think, near my home is an abandoned warehouse which would be quite a good setting and fit with the conventions of the magazine. Costume: I think is would be nice to have the band wearing winter hats and things, but clothes that still fit in with the stereotype of ‘hardcore’. Parkas, woolly hats etc.

6 The who and where of this image are the same as design 1, the difference being that in this image the subjects are all holding different books. This links in with the title of the bands new EP, ‘Literature’. I took this idea from an article I saw in Rock Sound, where the title of La Dispute’s EP ‘wildlife’ was reflected within the plant-like background of the shot.
