2 Professionalism Use positive “discipline” techniques and personal role modeling of the highest citizenship and that which would be appropriate of a workplace where children are present -Stay in the class, completely involved in your job, from bell to bell. -Before leaving the classroom, you must first check in with the instructor. -Clean up after yourself and make sure to assist the children to clean up. -Treat all children with respect and care taking very seriously your trust to bring up each child in a loving and caring manner. -Treat all parents with respect and think very carefully before saying anything. Refer all behavioral questions to the instructor.

3 Wear comfortable shoes and washable clothes so that you can be less concerned about spilled paint or dirty fingers. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather as we will have recess outside during preschool. No midriffs are to be displayed No spaghetti straps Jewelry will be limited to and tasteful. No clothing that displays inappropriate or unprofessional messages. PLEASE NOTE: No skirts/dresses that are form fitting and shorter than half way to the knees – without having to adjust on a regular basis.

4 Conversations Never discuss a child’s behavior in front of him/her. Never make comparisons between one child and the next. Avoid conversations with other students when you are teaching. Students will be supportive of the lead teacher in their conversations with the children. Never discuss any personal information about preschool children outside of the classroom. In Tide-E-Tots, we practice confidentiality. Any behavioral information discussed with parents must come from the lead teacher.

5 Supervision In case of a fall or possible injury, tell the lead teacher immediately. Make sure every child has constant supervision. Pay special attention to children playing in a climbing apparatus and make sure you are physically close to the apparatus to prevent emergencies. Encourage children to speak. Ask simple, open-ended questions. Smile. Encourage creativity. Stay in the station/duty you are assigned. At least two students should accompany children to the bathroom. The students should remain outside the bathroom and only one child should be in the bathroom at a time. The door should remain ajar in case the child needs help and to prevent a child from locking him/herself into the bathroom.

7 The consequences of inappropriate behavior and not complying with the above rules may result in any of the following: Verbal warning and/or possible parent contact Referral and/or counselor notification Evaluation of suitability for class Removal from class
