1 Courthouse Green Network News Years 5 and 6 became budding thespians (theatre lovers) last week. Year 6 visited the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry to watch a play called The Silver Sword which follows a head teacher’s attempts to escape from a Nazi prisoner of war camp during the second world war. Meanwhile The Young Shakespeare Company came in to work with year 5 pupils to re-enact the famous Shakespeare play Macbeth. Reporters: TJ Gilder, Jerel Fearon, Zaara Imran, Ruby Muttit, and Lauren Downs. Editor: Mr Davoile Lets go to the theatre! Questions: Why do you think people choose to become actors? Do you think actors need perseverance to learn all of their lines? What other challenges might actors have to persevere with? E.g. stage fright. Would you ever consider becoming an actor? Issue 4 – Friday 2 nd October 2015. We went to the Belgrade to watch the Silver Sword. The actors made it very funny and interesting. I liked the way they changed their accents. There also danced and sang. My favourite part was when the Head Teacher escaped and found his children because it was really emotional. I liked the Shakespeare Company because they made the play really lively. I really liked the bit where Macbeth came up with blood on his dagger and vest.

2 Happening in the UK A new law banning smoking in vehicles carrying children has come into force in England and Wales. Drivers and passengers who break the law could face a penalty fine of £50. Anti-smoking groups say that the change in law will help protect children from the harmful effects of smoke. Questions: Do you think this new law is a good thing? Why? What are the ‘harmful effects of smoking’? Would you try a cigarette if you were offered it? Practice what you could say to turn someone down who offered you a cigarette. Questions: Do you think this new law is a good thing? Why? What are the ‘harmful effects of smoking’? Would you try a cigarette if you were offered it? Practice what you could say to turn someone down who offered you a cigarette. Do not be tempted to smoke when you are older as it is highly addictive and will cost you your money and possibly your life.

3 Questions: Did you want England to win? Is there another team you feel strongly about? How did you feel as an English citizen when England lost? Are you surprised that Japan won against a team that is meant to be much better? Could they have done it without a growth mind-set? What have you done that you didn’t think you could do because of a growth mind-set? From all over the world… Millions of people from all over the world have come to England to support their country in the Rugby World Cup. Unfortunately England lost a crucial game to Australia and is now out of the world cup it is hosting. It is not just about England though and many England fans were seen cheering on Japan. The Japanese rugby squad were not expected to win their match against South Africa but they showed great growth mind-set and kept trying really hard. They eventually won the game and fans from all over the world commended their hard work! Even Prince William watched the England rugby matches. In this photo he is goofing around with England rugby player Jake Ball. Australia (in yellow) beat England on Saturday pushing them out of the world cup.
