Question 2. How do movies or television influence people’s behavior?

1.Troy Lund I find it hard to believe that movies and television really influence people’s behavior – at least adults. you can certainly see this more in

2.Arroe Collins people have always been influenced by television or movies. Culture is culture, and those who create with culture in mind will change culture.

3.Eric Medler

4.Bernie Beamon Kids watch something on TV and they act it out, and that definitely tells me that what you watch on TV can influence your behavior.

5.De Niro I think movies and TV greatly influence people’s behavior.
people start buying the same types of clothes, they start talking or imitating the speech of the main characters; they even get the same hairstyles. Movies have a huge effect on people, especially younger people. I think that violence and drugs in movies and on television have a huge effect on people’s behavior. People start thinking that it’s okay to be carrying guns, and to be talking tough and fighting, or even doing drugs, because they see it done so freely in the movies. I think movies can have a very negative effect on people. Of course, there are good movies too that can make people act better also, but I think for the most part, it generally has a negative influence.

6. Morgan Barnhart

7. Shelby Lanier I’m a believer that it is a combination of art imitating life, and life imitating art. I think what we see on TV is a reflection of our behavior and it can also influence our behavior, so it’s a two-way street in that respect. Some people do act out what they see on television and in the media.

8. Daniel G Movies and television can influence an individual’s behavior, because oftentimes we want to imitate our favorite actors and characters, and behave as they do. In movies and television, there are heroes and if these characters are strong, we want to act like them and when facing our own problems in life we want to react as they do. So movies and television can be very influential to people, in that they can help us, all of us, as viewers, live an exciting life almost by living through them.

COMPLETE ANSWERS

1.Troy Lund I find it hard to believe that movies and television really influence people’s behavior – at least adults – you can certainly see this more in children who might change their hairstyle to look like a favorite character or adopt some of the mannerisms of a movie character or TV character...but I would be surprised if it had any direct impact on the behavior of adults.

2.Arroe Collins Oh, by far, people have always been influenced by television or movies. Look at – look at Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp is the ultimate cool guy. If Johnny Depp were to pick up a cigarette and start smoking, the majority of the guys in the audience would do the same thing. Saturday Night Fever – people danced all over the world because of the music. That sets a standard. Culture is culture, and those who create with culture in mind will change culture.

3.Eric Medler I do believe that when people succeed, it is because of hard work, and that luck has...I can’t say ‘nothing to do with success’, but I don’t think it has nearly as much to do with success as hard work does. I think that if you work hard at something, you have to make your own breaks, if you know what I mean. You have to find your opportunities, but a lot of people would be calling that being lucky at something, but if you put yourself in a position to succeed, some people call that luck, you know. If you’re an actor – if you audition a lot, you’re working hard. If you get a part, it’s not luck; it’s ‘cause you worked hard, although some people will say, “Isn’t he lucky?” He got a lot of luck simply because he worked really hard to get to where he was, or she got really – worked really hard to get to where she was.

4.Bernie Beamon I remember when my kids were littler, they would watch something on TV and they would act it out, and that definitely tells me that what you watch on TV can influence your behavior.

5.De Niro I think movies and TV greatly influence people’s behavior. Television shows are a really great example of this. If there was a famous TV show, in a few weeks, people start buying the same types of clothes, they start talking or imitating the speech of the main characters; they even get the same hairstyles. It’s kind of funny to watch. Do in some ways, I think movies can have a very negative effect on people, but they certainly do influence the behavior. Of course, there are good movies too that can make people act better also, but I think for the most part, it generally has a negative influence.

6. Morgan Barnhart How do movies or television influence people’s behaviors? A perfect example of how television influences us is Pokemon. Pokemon is a pretty famous cartoon, and how that influences us is because it was a very popular cartoon and a lot of people really enjoyed it, and kids would play the game and everything, but because kids were so obsessed with this game, they would be obsessed with collecting all of the cards and everything. So a child actually killed another child by knocking him down just to get this card from this other child. So he was so obsessed about playing this game from this television show Pokemon, that he actually killed the child for this card!

7. Shelby Lanier I’m a believer that it is a combination of art imitating life, and life imitating art. I think what we see on TV is a reflection of our behavior and it can also influence our behavior, so it’s a two-way street in that respect. Some people do act out what they see on television and in the media, and some people would never act that way but would still watch a television program that has actions in it that doesn’t really fit with their morals or principles or ethics. So I think it could be a little bit of both, but television definitely can influence people’s behavior.

8. Daniel G Movies and television can influence an individual’s behavior, because oftentimes we want to imitate our favorite actors and characters, and behave as they do. In movies and television, there are heroes and if these characters are strong, we want to act like them and when facing our own problems in life we want to react as they do. In some cases, viewers of movies even want to look like their favorite actors or characters, so they can have an effect on people’s clothing and appearance as well. So movies and television can be very influential to people, in that they can help us, all of us, as viewers, live an exciting life almost by living through them.

9.Danielle Fornes I do think that movies and television influence people’s behavior. It might not always be really obvious, but a lot of times in movies things come easily to people and I think in real life, you might assume that things will come easily for you and so you may act in a way that maybe you shouldn’t because you’ve seen it on TV, for example, if someone goes and robs a bank in a movie and it’s all planned out and everything works perfectly, you might think you could do the same thing in real life. There’s a lot of discussion about violence on TV and how that influences children or adults, but I do think that it influences people’s behavior a little bit.
