Simple Circuits Series circuit –All in a row –1 path for electricity –1 light goes out and the circuit is broken Parallel circuit –Many paths for electricity –1 light goes out and the others stay on

Series and Parallel Circuits Series Circuits –only one end of each component is connected –e.g. Christmas tree lights Parallel Circuits –both ends of a component are connected –e.g. household lighting

circuit diagram cellswitchlampwires Scientists usually draw electric circuits using symbols;

Circuit in Diagram Form _ + battery bulb In a closed circuit, current flows around the loop Current flowing through the filament makes it glow. No Loop  No Current  No Light current electrons flow opposite the indicated current direction! (repelled by negative terminal)

Voltage, Current, and Power One Volt is a Joule per Coulomb (J/C) One Amp of current is one Coulomb per second (6.24 x10^18 electrons/second). If I have one volt (J/C) and one amp (C/s), then multiplying gives Joules per second (J/s) –this is power: J/s = Watts So the formula for electrical power is just: P = VI: power = voltage  current

Mid-term Game Procedures First you will receive a game board and a game kit containing the pieces for the game. Only one person in each group can touch the folded card labeled key and will not be allowed to play in that round. (This person should change after every round) The remaining players will choose a game piece to represent themselves on the game board (may be an animal or a chess piece) All the selected game pieces should be placed at the area labeled start. The red and yellow cards should be shuffled and placed face down in two separate piles by the person in charge of the key. Each player should roll the dice to see who will start the game and the highest number should go first and so on. Once the game begins the player should roll their dice and move the indicated amount of spaces. The color you land on is the color of card that you will pull. You will read the question out loud and give your answer to the person with the key. If you were correct you will stay in that space, if you were wrong you will go back to your previous place. (Beware of the go back 3 spaces block because you have to go backwards and you are unable to pull and answer a card. The first player to the end will be awarded with 3 BIG BUCKS for each round. Once the game is over you are to place all your cards and pieces into the bag and write down the number of your kit so that you do not play the same kit twice. Trade you game kit only with another group who may also be finished so that you can play again with a different set of questions. Remember the more rounds you get to play the more chances you have of winning BIG BUCKS!!!
