The Evolution of Logos A company’s logo definitely plays a very important role in getting any brand recognized. People remember a brand mostly because of a logo. Logos help people in differentiating between brands.

The Evolution of Logos It is very important for all business owners to associate their brand with a well-designed logo that can stay into people’s mind for a long time. Logos are constantly evolving with the passage of time and to cater the needs of today.

Apple Apple introduced their first logo in 1976 with an image of Sir Issac newton discovering gravity.

Shell Shell’s logo has seen a lot of evolution ever since 1900, when it was first introduced. As of now the design has been redefined a little with no text in the logo.

Microsoft The Microsoft logo was introduced in 1975 where it was written as ‘Micro-soft’ however, soon the hyphen was removed from the name and a distinctive O was introduced. The new logo had a cut in O which gave it a name of pacman logo.

Volkswagen Introduced in 1939, the logo looked like a gear however, the logo evolved with the ending of World War II. The gear and bumped teeth were removed and later in 2000, the logo was colored into blue from black.

Nike The logo now is a fine example of simplicity as it contains only a Nike swoosh and is still so recognizable.

Pepsi Pepsi’s logo has witnessed countless changes ever since 1898. By 1972, they transformed the bottle cap with using blue, white and red color and thanks to this evolution. Today Pepsi’s logo is that stripped circle.

Wal-Mart Walmart’s logo has been pretty much the same since 1962 as they prefer the name of their brand over any design. They have been changing colors every now and then and the final version has the company’s tagline with it with a yellow star symbol.

Logos with Hidden Meanings Professional logo designers know that there is much behind a logo than simple text with an image or symbol thrown on it. They want to make something unique, something that is exceptional, something with a deeper meaning.

Fed-Ex Look between the “E” and the “x”, yes, there is a white space which makes an arrow. The arrow represents speed and precision.

NBC There is a peacock in the middle, in white color. It was quite obvious years ago, but now the peacock is a bit tough to spot

Goodwill Have you ever noticed that the “g” in “goodwill” and the smiling face look quite similar? Yes, they are same!

Big Ten There are now 12 schools in the Big 10, but when the logo was designed there were 11. The conference didn’t want to change its name, so they added the logo magic! You can see two 1′s by the each side of ‘T’.

Baskin Robbins Baskin-Robbins is famous for having 31 flavors, one for each day! So they have incorporated the ’31′ in pink color in their ‘BR’.

The Pittsburgh Zoo You can see the tree, but the sides of the tree have a white space, which makes up a monkey and lion staring each other.

Atlanta Falcons The Atlanta Falcons logo is a really cool looking bird, which also makes the shape of a big letter “F”.

Amazon Amazon logo is not only smiling but notice that the arrow goes from “a” to “z”. Yup, Amazon has everything from A to Z.

Milwaukee Brewers The glove is actually made up of the letters “b” and “m”.

Hershey’s Hershey’s kisses logo has to be big for you to notice it, but just see what lies between the “K” and the “I”.

Assignment On the front of your folder, design a logo that best describes and represents you. – Remember people need to look at this logo and be able to easily recognize what/who the logo represents.
