Young Children & Ministry Writing Assignment Instructor: Jovonni T. Farrington

Brainstorming There were so many topics and subtopics discussed in this course. Select one topic that was most important to you. Something that either touched your heart, was close to you, or that you an relate directly to.

Selecting A Topic After you know what area you are interested in, select a specific topic. For example if you selected anger. You may choose specifically to discuss anger resources available to children ages 2-4, who are in blended families.

Research Make sure you have chosen a topic where actual research can be done. Try not to select a topic too broad so that you cannot narrow your search. Or a topic too narrow so that actual research cannot be generated. For example, if you are doing your research on The National Family Violence Surveys, specifically the parent to child family violence in Florida. This may be too broad, perhaps you need to check the numbers in Miami-Dade County, Broward County or Leon County. Or perhaps you want to compare two counties. Just make sure you don’t have too broad a topic for research or too narrow. For example, if you want to research the resources available for family violence in the Miami Beach area. Perhaps there will not be enough information to create a research paper.

The Assignment The assignment is simple. Write a 8-10 page paper (10- 15 page paper Master’s students) on the topic of your choice. It must be a topic from the book, Tackling Tough Issues. It must be a research paper relating to young children and ministry, be it educational, medical or otherwise. This paper must be well thought through, clear, concise and academic. This paper must be typed in 12pt font, New Times Roman font. You may write in any academic style you choose (MLA, APA, Turabian). Remember to stick to whatever style you choose.

Tips Remember to remain on topic. Choose a topic that is important to you. Select a topic that extensive research can be done on. Do not try to write all the research you find, only the important points. Include opportunities for ministry. Look for biblical references that can be included. Do not plagiarize. Include your own thoughts.
