4 Duties Dispensing drugs prescribed by physicians Education and informing consumers about the use and possible side effects Advising physicians on the selection, dosage, interaction, and effects of medications Maintaining confidential records of patients’ medications to ensure their safety and monitor their progress Providing specialized disease management services for patients with conditions such as diabetes or asthma Preparing drug therapies in areas such as oncology and intravenous nutrition support

5 Qualifications To become a pharmacist, you need to be meticulous, have strong communication skills, enjoy helping people and knowledge of science.

6 Wages/Salary The median salary for pharmacist careers is $106,764 per year, but the top 25% earn more than $112,000.

8 Opportunities for advancement In community pharmacies, pharmacists usually begin at the staff level. Pharmacists in chain drugstores may be promoted to pharmacy supervisor or store manager. Some pharmacists may be promoted to manager at the district or regional level and, later, to an executive position within the chain's headquarters. Hospital pharmacists may advance to supervisory or administrative positions. Some pharmacists become owners or part owners of independent pharmacies. Pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry may advance in marketing, sales, research, quality control, production, or other areas
