2 Airline Pilot Pilot and navigate the flight of multi-engine aircraft in regularly scheduled service for the transport of passengers and cargo. Requires Federal Air Transport rating and certification in specific aircraft type used. Salary –In 2009, the California average annual wage was $88,324 for entry level workers, and $187,863 for experienced workers. Education –Most of these occupations require a four-year bachelor's degree. –Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work- related experience, on- the-job training, and/or vocational training.

3 What does an Airline Pilot do? Steer aircraft along planned routes with the assistance of flight management computers. Work as part of a flight team with other crew members. Respond to and report in-flight emergencies and malfunctions. Use instrumentation to guide flights when visibility is poor. Conduct in-flight tests and evaluations at specified altitudes and in all types of weather. Choose routes, altitudes, and speeds that will provide the fastest, safest, and smoothest flights. Monitor gauges, warning devices, and control panels to verify aircraft performance and to regulate engine speed.

4 Outlook for the Future During 2009, there were approximately 6,080 people employed in this field in CA. It is estimated that in 2016 there will be 6,500 employed in CA. This represents an increase of 60 new positions each year (1.00%).
