2. Starter You are all going to be given a picture – each picture is different You need to write down all of the issues that you can see within your picture You have 2 minutes

3. What is wrong in the picture What was wrong in your pictures? Hands up – class discussion time

4. Health and Safety You all have a picture showing poor health and safety in the workplace Write a definition of what you think we mean by ‘Health and Safety’ Share you definition with the person next to you, is it the same, is there anything you can add to your definition now that you’ve looked at theirs?

Health and safety Facts It is extremely important that all businesses abide by Health and Safety laws because each year… Over 200 people lose their lives at work in Britain Around 150,000 non fatal accidents are reported An estimated 2 million people suffer ill health caused or made worse by work

Health and Safety Health and safety is a big problem that needs to be solved You are going to imagine that you are the manager of the business/workplace in your picture Open a new PowerPoint and put the following title HOW TO SOLVE A PROBLEM (and your name) On the next slide, describe what the issue is on your picture – what issues are there, what is being done incorrectly etc… This slide needs to fully describe the problem you have been given You have 5 minutes!

8. How to solve the problem You need to now think about how you could solve all of the issues within your picture You should begin to research via the internet the ‘Health and Safety at Work Act’ Make notes on; What the Act covers? How does the Act link to their picture? What laws are being broken in their picture – there are likely to be more than 1! Who should they go to for help and advice about the issues in their picture? Make notes on all of these points on a word document – remember to include references for where you have found your information
