“Status for Norway” eSafety as a theme will be “linked” to our ITS-strategy: Our proposal for an ITS-strategy is now on hearing. The work will be completed mid 2007. The next step will be to define more detailed “actionplans” (goals, resources, organisation, time schedule etc).

“Our ITS strategy” The strategy points out the main goals set for 2009 and 2015. 2009: Necessary organisational fundaments, competence and technology are established. Individual solutions and measures are tested out and introduced. Infrastructure are developed and ready for use. 2015: Integrated, more complex systems, are prepared and ready for use. ITS should have given quantitative effects.

“Our ITS vision” The Norwegian Public Roads administration will use ITS to contribute to a society: based upon an effective road traffic system without any fatalities or very severe injuries without any burden on the environment. The road traffic system shall be predictable and accessible for everybody.

“ITS strategy - traffic safety activities” Main activities - ITS should be used to: reduce the number of accidents due to high speed reduce the number of accidents due to drunk driving reduce the number of fatalities and very severe injuries due to not using seat belts reduce the number of head on accidents and single accidents driving off the road to develop emergency call system - eCall

“Our ITS strategy - policy” The Norwegian Public Roads administration should: be updated on the development in the car industry participate and take an active role nationally in the development and administration of “new” infrastructure develop our organisation and administration to fit well with the actual ITS-solutions participate in international ITS-activities which are anchored to activities mentioned in our ITS-strategy spread experience from participation in international ITS-activities into the organisation

“ITS-strategy – tool for implementation” As a tool for implementation of the ITS-strategy we have established a comprehensive national project focusing on ITS. The project starts up this year. The project should: coordinate our ITS-activities and priorities coordinate ongoing national research projects build up a test site including a driving simulator and test sites on streets and roads in the city of Trondheim. Testing communication technologies and knowledge about Human-Machine interface are of central interest.

“Questions” How do you interpret the CEDR vision with regards to your national approach? Quite good interaction and no obvious conflicts between CEDR vision and national vision Which aspect do you like to highlight in the vision? The possibilities to a significant reduction in road fatalities and serious accidents

“Questions” How do you interpret the CEDR strategy with regards to your national approach? Good interaction. Which aspect do you like to highlight in the strategy? The importance of common communication layers &/protocols. When it comes to interaction and coordination: Based on our ITS strategy we will have discussions and decisions about our and other stakeholders roles, our responsibilities, actual business models, ownership to data etc.

“Questions” How would your NRA like to contribute to the realisation of the strategy? By participating on central arenas relevant due to our ITS-strategy By following common layers/protocols and standards. We will be quite active when it comes to testing of new technologies/solutions for better understanding the effects and what sort of precautions that are needed. Our test site will be developd for such purposes.
