Biomes

Borders The dotted lines represent the borders between the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Color the borders black

Tundra The tundra is the coldest of Earth’s biomes The ground is usually frozen. This biome has the least biodiversity of any biome Northern Canada and Alaska are tundra. Color the Tundra light blue.

Taiga This biome is made up of coniferous trees and is the largest of all biomes Summers can be sunny but temperatures rarely climb beyond 60 degrees. Most of Canada is taiga. Color the Taiga dark green.

Temperate Rainforest This biome has massive amounts of rainfall and fairly cool temperatures The northwest corner of the United States is temperate rain forest Color the temperate rainforest light green

Deciduous Forest This biome has four distinct seasons Trees in this biome are known for changing color. The Eastern United States and Western edge of Mexico is deciduous forest. Color the deciduous forest red

Grassland This biome if found on every continent except Antarctica There is enough rain to support grasses and non- woody plants but not enough for large forests The grasslands used to be covered in buffalo The Midwest (middle of the country) is grassland. Color the Grassland yellow.

Chaparral This biome receives more rain than deserts but less than forest biomes There are often forest fires here Parts of California are chaparral Color the chaparral brown.

Tropical Rainforest Tropical Rainforests receive massive amounts of rain and have the greatest biodiversity in the world The eastern edge of Mexico, Central America, Hawaii, and the Caribbean Islands are all Tropical Rain Forest. Color the Tropical Rain Forest purple.

Desert This biome is extremely dry and extremely hot but can be very cool at night The western region of the U.S., as well as Northern Mexico is Desert. Color the Desert orange.

Freshwater This biome includes rivers, streams, lakes, ponds and wetlands. Our drinking water comes from this biome but only 2.5% of the world’s water is freshwater! The great lakes are freshwater ecosystems. Color the Freshwater Ecosystems pink.

Salt Water This biome includes oceans, coral reefs and shorelines There are five major oceans around the world The oceans surrounding the continents are Marine Ecosystems. Color the Marine Ecosystems dark blue.
