Christians and the Mind (II) Philippians 3:17 - 4:1 Colossians 3:1 - 4

We Must Discipline Our Minds to Claim Who We Are in Christ  Big template to follow when we come to Scripture  Col. 3:1-3—We are COMMANDED to center our minds, our hearts, our wills on who we are and what we have in Christ

We Must Discipline Our Minds to Claim Who We Are in Christ  We are given a new life pictured in baptism (Col. 2: 11-12; 3:1)  That new life has a supernatural aspect to it (Col. 2:12; Rom. 8:10-11)  We begin to experience new life and standing here in part (Col. 3:3-4)

We Must Discipline Our Minds to Claim Who We Are in Christ  We are not like other people  We are special and different because God has set His heart on us by His grace  We are royalty (Eph. 2:4-6); We are God’s chosen people (Col. 3:12); We have special standing (1 Peter 2: 9-11)

We Must Discipline Our Minds to Claim Who We Are in Christ  _______ has been love by God from before His creation  God planned _________ salvation from the creation of the world (Rev. 13:8)  _____ was birthed as a fallen creature in a fallen world, but that is not her final destiny.

We Must Discipline Our Minds to Claim Who We Are in Christ  ______ was chosen by God, wooed by His Spirit, and given eternal life (Eph. 1:3-8; 11)  ______ is destined to reign and live in glory with the God Who first set His heart on him (Rom. 8:16-17)

Baptist Faith and Message “Election is the gracious purpose of God, according to which He regenerates, justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies sinners. It is consistent with the free agency of man, and comprehends all the means in connection with the end. It is the glorious display of God's sovereign goodness, and is infinitely wise, holy, and unchangeable. It excludes boasting and promotes humility.”

We Must Illumine Our Minds By Gazing on God’s Glory  2 Cor. 3:18  Psalm 27:4  “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”

We Must Illumine Our Minds By Gazing on God’s Glory  The biggest problem in contemporary American Christianity is that our people do not know God  Because we are not in the Word, we don’t really know God

We Must Illumine Our Minds By Gazing on God’s Glory  He is beautiful in holiness  He is awesome in power  He is infinite in knowledge  He is rich in mercy

We Must Illumine Our Minds By Gazing on God’s Glory  He is thoroughly good and righteous  He is everywhere present  He is pure love

We Must Find Victory in the Present from the Perspective of the Eternal  We will have the courage to live like Christians when we truly believe that this is not all there is to life  We will live content in Him with the right perspective on life’s issues when we fashion our minds to be heavenly focused each day.
