Visual rhetoric project By: Derek Gossett

What do you see when first looking at this picture?

I see Manny Ramirez running.

Why do you think he is running?

Well if you know anything about baseball he is obviously wearing a baseball helmet which means he has been batting.

Why do you think he is holding up a finger looking in to the crowd?

When looking at this you should see that he has enough time running the bases to look into the crowd and if he is running the bases the only explanation for the time he has is that he hit a homerun and is trotting around the bases.

Why would he hold up the number one?

because he is being cocky about the accomplishment he has made and basically also trying to excite the crowd to get in the other teams head.

why would he want to do this?

so it gets the other team down and is easier for his team to win the game or for them to get up or ahead in the game against the opposing team.. in sports the crowd response and a teams demeaner has a lot to do with the momentum swings of the game and wich team stays ahead, in doing what he is doing it is getting the crowd “hyped” and it is getting the games momentum going in the red sox favor. This in so many ways can win or lose games if the team doesnt know how to battle adversity and doesnt have enough mental toughness to fight back when things start going down hill.
