5 5 Training Workshop Goals, Objectives and Programme Course Goal WMO To provide training and a forum for exchange of experiences and information, to improve the provision of weather forecasts, emphasizing on severe weather forecasting, with the goal to support disaster risk reduction Within the framework of the SWFDP

6 6 Training Workshop Goals, Objectives and Programme Course Objectives WMO GDPFS and Sat (1 st week) To update and broaden the knowledge of staff responsible for operational weather forecasting and development, to ensure the access and optimal use of existing NWP/EPS and satellite- based products with emphasis on forecasting hazardous weather conditions PWS (2 nd week) To provide knowledge of a broad range of topics related to improved PWS, and forecasting and delivery of services to media and disaster manager authorities

7 7 Training Workshop Goals, Objectives and Programme Topics included in the GDPFS and Sat part (1 st week) WMO Introduction and review of NWP and operational weather forecasting Probabilities and probabilistic forecasting Detecting, monitoring, forecasting hazardous weather Ensemble Prediction Systems (EPS) NWP and EPS products Verification and performance Application of NWP products to severe weather forecasting (with greater focus on tropical cyclone forecasting, but also on convective thunderstorms and monsoon systems)
