2 ROLES AND FUNCTIONS For all activities people are required to take different roles. A ‘role’ is the part a person plays in the activity E.g. Player Referee Coach Each role has a different “Function”, I.e. what they do/their purpose.

3 - There are a number of different roles that players can adopt during their performance. - Each role has a different function/purpose. Role: Defender in Hockey Function: To stop goals from being scored. Role: Setter in Volleyball Function: To set up the attack for their team. *Complete question 1 on worksheet* PLAYERS

4 OFFICIAL S - Not all people chose the role of a player/competitor. - Some people chose the role of an Official E.g. Referee Timekeeper Umpire Judge Starter The function of “Officials” are to ensure the game is played fairly and all players follow the written rules. * Complete question 2 on worksheet *

5 SUPPORTER -In some activities it is useful to have someone who is able to hold you in position whilst you practice a skill. -Example???????? Role: Supporter in Gymnastics Function: To support the performer during practice. I.e. holding the performers hips during a headstand to help stop them from falling over.

6 Helpe r - Supporting is not the only way to help someone. - You can help them by other methods; * Feeding the ball/shuttle to partner to help them practice a skill. * Using a checklist to note down points about their performance so the performer can find out what they need to do in order to improve. * Spotter at a trampoline * Complete question 3 on worksheet *

7 COACH - This is the person who works to improve the skill level of the team. - Work out the tactics for the team E.g Exploit opponents weaknesses and make advantage of your teams strengths. * Complete question 4 on worksheet *
